Mid Century Carstens Tonnieshof Ashtray

A good welcome to all.

Today’s new shop listing (Old Raven on Etsy) is this truly lovely dish from West Germany.

Look at those colors!  This is a lava flow pattern that was very popular in the mid century and one can see why – it’s just absolutely beautiful.  The minty greens and the smokey mushroom seem to float on the surface of this dish.  And though this was no doubt originally made to be a very decorative ashtray (and certainly still could be) I see this as being a unique candy dish or nut bowl with those fluted edges covered in old gold.

This is the perfect size to accent a coffee or end table.  And at this time of year – place a handful of freshly harvested golden English walnuts in this dish for a touch of natural  Thanksgiving decor.

Beautiful from any angle – and this dish is in excellent condition.  You might consider this for an inexpensive Holiday or housewarming gift.

It even has the original felt base to protect fine furniture, as well as the original gold foil tag to delight the collector.

Have a wonderful Fall day. – Kriss
